On August 21, 1911, someone stole the Mona Lisa from the Louvre and turned the art world upside-down. When a French newspaper offered a reward for information, a man came forward with a statue he'd stolen from the museum four years earlier. He claimed to have stolen a few of them for the poet Guillaume Apollinaire, who'd sold them to Picasso. The 29-year-old artist, now living in France, was taken to court , where he denied knowing that the statues he'd purchased were stolen. There was no real evidence or a link to the Mona Lisa theft, so Picasso wasn't charged.

According to Professor Hassnain, who has studied this tomb, there are carved footprints on the grave stones and when closely examined, carved images of a crucifix and a rosary. The footprints of Yuz Asaf have what appear to be scars represented on both feet, if one assumes that they are crucifixion scars, then their position is consistent with the scars shown in the Turin Shroud (left foot nailed over right). Crucifixion was not practised in Asia, so it is quite possible that they were inflicted elsewhere, such as the Middle East. The tomb is called by some as "Hazrat Issa Sahib" or "Tomb of the Lord Master Jesus". Ancient records acknowledge the existence of the tomb as long ago as 112AD. The Grand Mufti, a prominent Muslim Cleric, himself has confirmed that Hazrat Isa Sahib is indeed the tomb of Yuz Asaf!

At the rear of the workshop, there was a small upstairs office.  I remember the day when a seamstress came up stairs and said, "Norman, I think you had better come down."  At the front door I found a couple of shady types obviously checking out our alarm system.  I asked what I could do for them.  They were shucking and jiving me when I noticed them looking over my shoulder.  I turned around and saw our black Great Dane approaching.  Her name was Sation.  I turned and said "Back Sation."  I heard the guys exclaim, "Satan" and they were gone.  Sation was there for just that reason; we had had a burglary through the roof at night.  Sation would sleep in an armchair near the door.  We had no more burglaries.  But, every morning there was a ton of dog poop.  On top of that, she took to hanging out in front of the meat market down on 18th Street.  I think that was about the time we moved to Folsom Street and Sation moved back to Sebastopol.

The wondrous pelagic vistas of this island duo drew so many visitors since the 1980s that Phi Phi became a byword for development, from damaged reefs and brackish water to garbage overload. Damage to Maya Bay on Phi Phi Leh while filming The Beach proved minor compared with how the 2004 tsunami scoured the tourist village on the sandbar of Phi Phi Don. Thaksin hampered its recovery so it could be turned into an upmarket eco-resort, but with backpacker volunteer help the crowded mess of bars and guesthouses returned regardless. Areas unaffected by the wave have fared better.
